Two decades in Learning and Development (L&D) have flown by faster than I ever expected. Honestly, I didn’t plan for this career—it found me. At first, training was just one of many responsibilities I juggled. But what started as a side project quickly became a passion, and before I knew it, I was fully immersed. Originally, I thought I was going to be a High School teacher, but I fell in love with adult learning—helping people grow, adapt, and succeed.

Over the years, I’ve worked with associates at every level, from frontline teams to senior leaders. Along the way, I’ve learned a few things about what makes learning truly impactful:

1. Engagement is Everything
Even the best-designed content falls flat if it doesn’t capture attention. Training competes with countless other priorities, so it has to be relevant, practical, and engaging. Real-world scenarios, interactive elements, and storytelling turn training from an obligation into an opportunity.

2. Learning is a Culture, Not an Event
The best teams don’t see learning as a one-time task—they integrate it into their culture. Whether through coaching, knowledge-sharing, or everyday problem-solving, continuous learning drives real growth. It’s not about checking a box; it’s about fostering curiosity.

3. Technology Enhances, But People Make it Meaningful
L&D has evolved from classroom sessions to e-learning, microlearning, and AI-driven experiences. But no platform replaces thoughtful instructional design and human connection. Technology is a tool, not the solution. Real learning happens through discussion, reflection, and action.

4. Adaptability is the Name of the Game
The way we learn has changed drastically—and it keeps evolving. From instructor-led training to AI-powered personalization, the best learning professionals (and learners) embrace change, stay curious, and never stop evolving.

5. Learning Never Stops
If there’s one thing I’ve realized after all these years, it’s that learning is a lifelong process. The more I learn, the more I realize how much more there is to discover. That’s what keeps this journey exciting.

Looking back, I never expected L&D to shape my career the way it has, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. What started as an unexpected responsibility became a career filled with purpose, creativity, and growth. And the best part? There’s always more to learn.
